The Class 3 Driver Training Program atWildRose Academy of Driving in Calgary, Alberta, is designed for students who want to pursue their successful career in the commercial driving industry by providing comprehensive all types of theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on practical experience. The main focus of the program is to teach skills that are required to safely operate single motor vehicles with three or more axles, including dump trucks, tow trucks, cement mixers, garbage trucks, and other heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Our curriculum includes classroom training, in-yard training, and in-cab practical sessions, which help every student receive complete, hands-on learning from certified professionals.
Program Overview
The Class 3 program provides students with the fundamental skills and technical knowledge required to operate large commercial vehicles including with road regulations safely and efficiently. It includes vehicle inspection, control systems, defensive driving techniques, and compliance with transportation laws and regulations. Students will gain a deep understanding of air brake systems, cargo securement, and road safety principles. The course emphasisesreal-world scenarios and best practices for operating heavy vehicles even in diverse traffic and weather conditions across Alberta.

Entry Program
Fundamental classroom instruction providing the essential framework for commercial operation.

Core Learning Program
The comprehensive standard for professional Class 1 licensure.
Class: 4 hours
- In-yard training: 13 hours
- In-cab driving: 43 hours
- Air brakes training: 8 hours
Experience and Equivalency Program
Streamlined path for drivers with documented commercial experience or license.
Class: 3.5 hours

Course Structure
• Classroom Training: It Includes manual driving lessons such as traffic laws, trip planning, safety protocols, professional driver responsibilities and emergency procedures.
• In-Yard Training:It includes practical demonstrations of vehicle inspection, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and air brake system checks. Most Class 3 vehicles run on air brakes, so you will need the air brake (Q) endorsement — it can be completed alongside this program.
• In-Cab Lessons:It includes hands-on driving sessions that cover gear shifting, backing manoeuvres, turns, hill starts, and on-road driving techniques in various traffic conditions.
Our instructors also provide personalized feedback after each lesson to ensure learners for full proficiency.
Assessment and Licensing
This includes assessment of students through both written evaluations and practical driving tests. The final step toward certification is the Class 3 Road Test administered by Alberta Transportation. Successful graduates earn their Alberta Class 3 Driver’s Licence whichhelps them to, qualify drive single motor vehicles with three or more axles and certain towed units within weight limits set by the province.
Program Duration
Program length may vary depending on the student’s previous experience and schedule availability. Wild Rose Academy also offers flexible training options so that you can opt for either a full-time or part-time learning program, which makes it easier for even working professionals to complete their certification efficiently.
Outcome
After successful completion of the program and road test, graduates will receive an Alberta Class 3 Driver’s Licence, qualifying them to operate wide range of vehicles that are used in Alberta’s construction, logistics, municipal, and transportation sectors.
